Susan Davis Taylor is the Founder and Principal Designer of Davis Taylor Design, creating timeless interiors that blend architectural integrity, craftsmanship, sophistication and whimsy.

Her design philosophy was shaped by a lifelong appreciation for history and art. After earning a bachelor’s degree in Archaeology and Art History from Rutgers University, Susan participated in archaeological excavations on the East Palatine Hill of the Roman Forum through the American Academy in Rome. That experience instilled a deep respect for enduring design, exceptional craftsmanship, and diligent restoration.

Today, Susan divides her time between her homes in Los Angeles and Italy, drawing inspiration from California’s effortless style and Italy’s rich architectural heritage. Her work layers antiques with contemporary furnishings, custom millwork, artisan-made objects, and natural materials to create homes that feel collected, authentic, and timeless.

Whether restoring a historic residence or designing a new home, Susan believes the most meaningful interiors reflect the lives and stories of the people who live in them.

DESIGN

Our approach is to harmonize functionality and comfort with layers of personality. We aim to express the attributes and aesthetic of each client by collectively selecting eye-catching textiles, uncommon decor pieces, striking light fixtures, and sprinkling playful pops of color throughout the home. We favor a cohesive space that can be both ornate and encompass a sense of well-being and warmth. The key to a successfully designed space is one that does not allocate itself to a specific era or movement, but withstands the test of time and current design fads. We achieve this type of space through the inclusion of both antique and contemporary pieces that are meaningful to the client, creating interiors that are everlasting. We value making each area of the home personal, which is why we strive to include specific artifacts and pieces that kindle remembrance and joy every time our client encounters them. SERVICES

Susan’s experience and expertise pertain to all types of residential projects- both small and large. She is able to produce drawings, vision boards and carry out the styling of minor interior projects, while also working in tandem with a large design team to achieve a complete home renovation. In addition, Susan and her team have extensive experience designing custom furniture pieces that are a genuine reflection of each client.
